 CAESARIA OF ARLES

ABBESSES, c. 530, c. 560

Caesaria of Arles can refer to two women of that name, the first and second abesses of a convent in Arles, the younger likely being the neice of the elder. The elder was the sister of Saint Caesarius of Arles, who founded the convent in 512 and wrote a strict rule of life for them. The house soon grew to hundreds of nuns, many of them widows.
